Leading learning 7,500 miles away! (July 30th, 2018)
For ten days, Lead For Delaware leaders in cohorts 3 and 4 engaged in deep personal and professional learning in the state of Uttar Pradesh, more specifically in the village of Anupshahr, in northern India. They spent the days observing classrooms, providing observation feedback, teaching demo lessons and training teachers to better engage their students and differentiate their approaches to teaching and learning. Spanning the philosophical and the practical, they both left a deep impact on the lives of students, teachers and leaders at Pardada Pardadi Educational Society.
The purpose of this journey was two fold: 1) to allow the leader the space to more deeply understand themselves as individuals first, then as leaders and 2) to provide the leader a decontextualized experience in which they can observe and evaluate leadership attributes in other individuals and other settings.
During the final days of the journey, leaders engaged in deep discussions about leadership, with their cohort mates, the leaders of Pardada and leaders of local villages. They reflected about how they show up naturally as leaders, their presence while facing challenges, awareness of race and power, willingness to accept and act upon critical feedback; these conversations were deeply powerful, reflective and, we hope, practice-shifting.
Stay tuned for more amazing learning coming out of Lead For Delaware!
